INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
The ingredients needed to make these cookies are listed below:
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 cup apple – finely diced
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
METHOD
- Preheat the oven to 180° C.
- Mix together all the dry powdered ingredients except sugar (flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt).
- In another bowl, beat shortening and white sugar until frothy and light.
- Add to it the eggs one at a time and beat again.
- Blend in the flour mixture thoroughly by stirring. Add the diced apples, rolled oats, and chopped walnuts and fold in until well blended.
- Drop dough spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake cookies for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the edges are golden, in a preheated oven.
