INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

The ingredients needed to make these cookies are listed below:

  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup apple – finely diced
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    METHOD 

    1. Preheat the oven to 180° C.
    2. Mix together all the dry powdered ingredients except sugar (flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt).
    3. In another bowl, beat shortening and white sugar until frothy and light.
    4. Add to it the eggs one at a time and beat again.
    5. Blend in the flour mixture thoroughly by stirring. Add the diced apples, rolled oats, and chopped walnuts and fold in until well blended.
    6. Drop dough spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
    7. Bake cookies for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the edges are golden, in a preheated oven.
